Dirt Work in Jacksonville, FL.
Florida is flat. Pancake flat. Which means dirt work on a Florida property isn't usually about cutting huge slopes — it's about moving the right amount of dirt to the right places to make water go where it should, give you a solid foundation pad, or grade in a driveway that doesn't turn into a swamp every July.
Brother's Tree & Land Clearing handles dirt work across Jacksonville, Mandarin, Orange Park, Middleburg, Ponte Vedra, St. Augustine, Fleming Island, Fernandina Beach and the surrounding NE Florida communities. From single-family-home pad prep to driveway grading to drainage swale cutting — we bring skid steers, box blades, dump trailers, and the experience to get the ground right.
Most of our dirt work follows clearing work — once the trees are down and the brush is mulched, the lot needs grading before it can be built on, paved, or sodded. But we also take standalone dirt work jobs: driveway rebuilds, drainage fixes, pad leveling, and site touch-ups.
Florida soils — predominantly sandy across Duval, Clay, Nassau and coastal St. Johns — are easier to work than the clay soils up north, but they drain fast and erode quickly without proper grading. The grade direction matters more than the grade magnitude. We make sure water moves away from structures, not toward them.
Get the Ground Ready.
Dirt work is what separates a cleared lot from a build-ready site. Proper grading directs water away, prevents erosion, and gives you a stable base for whatever you're building.
We work with you (and your builder, surveyor, or engineer if you have one) to make sure the grade, fall, and finish are right the first time.

How We Get It Done.
Site Walk & Goal Setting
We walk the site with you (and your builder or surveyor if applicable), figure out what the finished ground needs to look like, and write a quote.
Coordinate With Other Trades
If you're building, we work to the civil engineer's grading plan. If you're a homeowner with a drainage issue, we figure out where the water needs to go.
Equipment On-Site
Skid steer with box blade for grading, dump trailer for hauling fill, grade rakes for finish work, sometimes a small dozer for larger cuts and fills.
Cut & Fill
Move dirt from high spots to low spots, bring in fill if you need elevation. We work systematically section by section, checking grade as we go.
Compaction Where Needed
Pads for buildings get compacted properly. Driveways get a compacted base. Standard grading doesn't need compaction beyond what the equipment provides.
Final Grade & Cleanup
Last pass with the box blade for finish grade. Any drainage swales cut. Site walked one more time with you before we're done.

Proper grading saves thousands in foundation, drainage, and erosion problems down the line.
Every Job Comes With.
What Affects Your Price.
No two jobs are exactly alike — here are the main things that move the number up or down on a written quote.
Volume of Dirt Moving
Most dirt work is priced by the hour for the equipment + operator, plus material costs if we're hauling fill in. Large jobs may be quoted flat.
Fill Required
If you need fill dirt brought in — for example, raising a flood-prone pad — that adds material cost on top of grading time.
Site Access
Open access for dump trailers is fastest. Long driveways, gates, or tight backyards add time.
Finish Quality
Rough grading (good enough for pasture or further work) is fastest. Finish grading (sod-ready, build-ready) takes longer per square foot.
Permits / Engineering
If your site needs a civil-engineered grade plan or has permit requirements, that affects scope but doesn't directly affect our pricing.
Drainage Components
Cutting drainage swales is included in most grading. Installing actual drain pipe or culverts is a separate scope (we partner with drainage specialists).
